elizabeth & aaron’s engagement session in boston’s north end

Posted in: Engagements

September 12 2011

When Elizabeth and Aaron asked me to come to Boston and photograph their engagement session I was like hell yeah! The funny thing is at the time we scheduled the session I was already scheduled to shoot in Boston the week before. The other funny thing is both couples happen to live in the North End just blocks from each other and both wanted me to capture them in the North End. What are the odds right? My number one task was to not use the same locations at all. After all I try my hardest to make everyone’s images unique for them. As a photographer I think its one of the hardest things I do. Elizabeth and Aaron are just so fun! My friend Katie O’ brought this couple to me as we’ll all be working on their May 25, 2012 wedding together. Let me tell you I’m glad she did because they’re just an awesome duo and their wedding will be beautiful. Elizabeth and Aaron, I had a great time capturing you both in the North End of Boston. I’m so happy you had me come out. I just wish the Yankees won the game I went to the night before but whatever! Lets hurry up and get to 5/25/12 already so we can do it again!

Peace,
JP

Meet Elizabeth and Aaron!

This is what I love about the North End.. awesome locations and sometimes you get interesting colors..
I must say I was feeling their pink and blue combo..
The North End is full of tight spots and they make for interesting locations.
Outside of their old apartment.
I love this scene. It’s my favorite image from the first set..
The colors and textures are awesome!
We did find some light!!
To my left stood a crowd of people waiting to get a table at Regina and eat some delicious pizza! They got to watch this beautiful couple get their photo shoot on!
The Elario Configuration..
This location was the bomb. I was in their apartment which has a nice view and in that view was a parking garage. We all know how much i like shooting on parking garages right? ;) Anyway it was on lock down but we snuck in.
This light is to die for.
My facebook teaser. I just love the view..
Oh watch out now.. she’s working it..
One more on the parking garage..
We headed to the harbor..
I found another pattern I liked..
Wait till she’s a bride.. look at you Elizabeth!!
I loved the faint color in the sky that night..
Cute..
Ok another favorite of mine..
We’re winding down now..
which means it’s time for my token “bling shot” holy bling too!
Stick your tongues out and get your goof on! See you soon guys!!!

Great Photos. NICE Rock on her finger!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Kris Ann (09.13.11)

I am in love with all the texture you get with shooting in this location, and they way the light has the chance to peep into some shots. You capture the North end perfectly. But now on to the couple Elizabeth & Aaron you both look great and your style just shows…. the same classic style that we will see next May!! yay!!!

  3. natalie (09.13.11)

jo, my bet would be you’re going to be traveling to boston a lot more! these are great! I think I love every picture when elizabeth is in her blue dress. aaron’s socks are awesome! good looking couple!

  4. Mona (09.12.11)

JP I’m loving the little silly cameo at the end!!! Another signature after the bling shot? What do we call this one? The JP triple combo? :)

You have a way with the views from those parking lot roofs!!! Very nice. But onto my most common boston related comment – I LOVE BOSTON.
It is such a beautiful city, oh, so many beautiful places in that city. I love that even the simplest shot, oh here’s a little alley way, they know (and we all do as well), hey that’s right near pizzaria regina’s. Awesome. The north end is definitely not boring. So old school, perfect. I LOVE that shot against the maroon wall with the flower box and bike. :)

Outfits – love the pink shirt with the pink belt. Well done guys. The outfits are great, bright, happy. All these shots are great and make me very reminiscent for my old stomping grounds. Ahhh. All the textures of the north end are just perfect, and Elizabeth and Aaron you’re a beautiful couple :)

    Can’t wait til May!!!!

    PS – Holy Bling indeed!

  5. Katie O' (09.12.11)

Joes- this is SO gorgeous….and makes me smile. Liz & Aaron are a very special client (and friends) so having you as part of their day makes it even more special. Loving so many of these shots, but of course one of my favs is the “forehead kiss” shot!! Love all the colors in the wardrobe selection, including Aaron’s awesome belt! (that’s SO Liz!) and the light in all the parking lot shots….you are awesome!! Can’t wait for the dream team to work together on 5.25.12 at my favorite spot!

  6. Amy (09.12.11)

chelsea and shawn’s downtown engagement session

Posted in: Engagements

September 7 2011
Ok! It’s time for an engagement session. This one features our November 12th 2011 bride and groom, Chelsea and Shawn. We shot in downtown Albany, I say it every time I blog a something from downtown but I love shooting here! It’s just one of those locations I’m so comfortable shooting in. But how could I miss with these two? Seriously? Anyway Chelsea and Shawn are just an awesome couple. It’s easy to like them since they’re just cool. I can’t wait for 11/12/11. Holler!
Peace,
JP
Meet Chelsea and Shawn..
Ah my favorite downtown pattern..
while we’re on patterns..
Give me that good light.. I love..
Like I said, I love it.
I started to shoot at this location back in May of 2010. It’s my favorite spot in all of Albany. I’ll continue to bring couples up to this gem of a location I found… ;)
Isn’t Albany beautiful?
Speaking of beautiful…
I applaud outfit #1 for these two. I love the way she compliments Shawn’s blue shirt.
The Elario Configuration..
They both have awesome eyes and it makes me jealous..
Onto the second set..
Another one of my favorite locations..
My facebook teaser.. I love this image.
Whats so funny guys?
A couple more b&w’s..
Yeah, there is a small “field” in downtown Albany..
Winding down..
with my token “bling shot”…. I bet Chelsea practiced ;)
One more.. I must say my curls were on point ;) I’m totally kidding..

  2. Mona (09.8.11)

Love me a downtown Albany shot :) I always love the little square pattern – ahhh memories of our engagement session. Still, looks familiar but always fresh :)
Love Chelsea and Shawn’s outfit – chelsea’s shirt looks so perfect with her coloring really!!!! And all the shots with the light are beautiful. I REALLY love that CRISP one after the outfit change. The colors and subjects just jump right out at you. The second outfits are great too :) Notice how his tie kinda goes with HER shoes? Yes, I noticed that :) You two are a very good looking couple, and look like you’re having a lot of fun with this shoot :) No doubt November will be awesome. As a november bride, I’m a bit biased :)

OH and love the shots against that bright greenish door thing. :) And of course, JP you hamming it up with them. Now, don’t be jealous of their beautiful eyes (although yes, they both have beautiful beautiful eyes), because brown eyes are beautiful too!!! (Again, maybe I’m biased being a brown eyed girl married to a brown eyed guy) :)

Seriously though, these are fun, stylish, very cool :) Congrats! November is right around the corner!

a north end engagement session with danaea & mike

Posted in: Engagements

August 31 2011

What if I were to tell you that I had an engagement session somewhere other then Albany, Saratoga and Lake George? Is that something you might be interested in? Pardon my nod to Entourage, so sad its coming to an end. Anyway.. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Boston? There are so many things I love about this city. The food, the culture, the history, Sam Adams beer and the shopping are some things I love. However, there is one thing I’m just not that crazy about. You guessed it, The Red Sox. While this engagement session didn’t take place in Fenway Park, the Back Bay or just around town ending on Acorn St it happened in one of my favorite places, The North End. Back in February Danaea and Mike sat in my office and told us about how they live in the North End and have this great roof deck. At that point this engagement session was conceived. Cut to last week, I was in Boston hosting the WPPI Road Trip so I reached out to Danaea and we set this thing up. I must say I’m quite happy with this one. I love everything about it. As if the awesome session wasn’t enough Danaea and Mike treated myself and Kris Ann(their florist ;) to an authentic North End Italian dinner at Vinoteca di Monica on Richmond St, their favorite restaurant. What a great way to end a great day! I can’t wait to work with these two again in January! They promised me they’d come out in the snow!! Guys, thank you for having be do this session, thank you for choosing us for your big day and thank you for the dinner!! I can’t wait for your big day!

ps.. I’m off to Boston again today for a the Yankee game and another engagement session!

Peace,
JP

Before I got into their apartment I had to get past Ryan aka Ry Guy aka Chicken. He’s a sweet little dude and is actually named after Mikes friend Ryan who is the shortest (my height) out of all his friends, too funny.

Danaea don’t play, rocking some Louboutin’s for outfit #1.

We set it off on the freedom trail in Paul Revere Mall, it’s like a one minute walk from their place.

Probably one of the most photographed landmarks in Boston. Due to the light I choose the horses best side ;)

Nothing wrong with a fountain shot…

After a little cash bribery I got him to play them a song.. This is one of my favorites from the first set.

Another one…

Isn’t Boston awesome?

Like I said, I’d rather the red soles than red sox ;)

The North End is full of these awesome little alleys or entrances, I love the light and the texture.

They’re Boston celebs.. I was shooting this and some guy then knew stopped by to outdo me with his cellphone camera. ;)

I finally found some light..

I like this one..

They nailed the Elario Configuration, I asked if they practiced.

Another one..

and one more because its my blog and I said so!

Oh hey there fancy pants.

I’m crazy about the light.. I love shooting into it.

I also will play by the rules and use the light the way we were taught in photo school ;)

This is where I tell you how awesome the choice of blue was. I’m loving all the colorful dresses in these engagement sessions. It’s like she knew we were heading to the harbor..

Heads were turning on Atlantic Ave..

My facebook teaser image which I happen to love! (someone messaged me and said the Boston harbor never looked so good)

Oh come on!

Someone was happy we were home.. I asked him to pose for me but he had to stretch first.. CHICKEN!!

Oh he’s all cool with the paw up, doing the “look away”

On their rooftop deck. Pretty awesome views of Boston huh?

I could get used to hanging out up here.

Danaea, you are too easy to photograph.

One more with their son…

Not a bad sky that night huh?

And the official token “bling shot” North End style..

Oh and this one too! Thanks again guys! See ya soon!!

a beautiful engagement session with meghan & curtis

Posted in: Engagements

August 24 2011

I love this one. It’s a special one too! Why? Well because Meghan and Curtis really wanted to do an engagement session with me but while planning a wedding budgets come into play and things get scratched. As we all know planning a wedding can get pricy and things do add up super quick. Anyway they have AWESOME friends. I got a call from Mike who is one of Curtis’ groomsmen. He said he and the whole bridal party wanted to chip in and hook Meghan and Curtis up with an engagement session. How freaking cool is that? I mean really, friends usually buy each other a drink or dinner but an engagement session is a whole new level. I think their bridal party could start a trend here! Anyway Meghan and I were chatting locations, trying to think of something a little different and BOOM! Meghan remembered her Aunt and Uncle have an incredible piece of property that was just begging for an engagement session to happen. On my way up the driveway I fell in love with the place and decided I’m moving in! Just kidding about the moving in part (sort of)! But in all seriousness I have to thank Aunt Sharon and Uncle Bill for having me. I was confident I’d give Meghan and Curtis great pics but your home pushed us over the top. The best thing is they’re photos are unique and the location is special to Meghan and Curtis. I had a blast and really look forward to getting together with Meghan, Curtis, their family and friends on April 13th 2012! So in this session I was not only working for the couple but their 12 friends! Thanks again to you all for making this happen. After all, the Beatles said it best “I get by with a little help from my friends.”

Peace,
JP

As always, we start things off easy here..

Pots!

I love this one.. It didn’t take Meghan long to channel her inner Tyra ;)

Talk about beautiful. I like the little head peeking in the top left.

Oh and the house had fields. You know I like them..

I know this one is similar but I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. The last image and this both show their good sides ;)

I like how the mountains and Curtis’ shirt compliment each other. (art by accident?)

Everyone should have a cabin in the woods. Meghan’s Aunt drove us over. It was across the street, it’s actually pretty far from their “house house” I thought we were never going to get there lol. What a little peaceful getaway.

Just all types of beautiful stuff in this session..

Cute little series.

Watch out now! A little color never hurt nobody! I love the pink dress, so fun.

The property is really a photographers dream, the light, the views and all the natural props!!

One of my favorites right here.

There is also a cute little bridge in the back..

but the light in the front is insane.

Look at em’ all working it.

The configuration…

The light is winding down..

That moment when the sun drops just below the horizon line is absolutely magical.

Work it girl. Do your thang!

My facebook teaser image.. Easily my #1 fav from the whole session.

As always, my token “bling shot”!

One last one!! haha gotta love it!

Congrats guys & thank you also for deciding on “Elario Photo,Inc. ” .

  2. Jamie (08.24.11)

fantastic session, JP. and i love that their friends pitched in for this, how wonderful :) congratulations on the engagement, Meghan and Curtis!! :)

  3. Tracy (08.24.11)

I really like how casual this series feels…one of my favorites. I really like the story of the friends chipping in for them too. Great post!

  4. Theresa (08.24.11)

Absolutely beautiful – looking forward to the wedding !! Love you guys!!

  5. Chauntelle (08.24.11)

Meghan, you look awesome! Love the scenery…can’t wait for the wedding! We are going to have so much fun!

  6. Mona (08.24.11)

Awwww this is SO SO great. I cannot get over the property. So picture perfect.
First I have to say, while I really love seeing engagement photos for couples who will soon wed (whether it be days, weeks, or a few short months), I feel like it’s been a little bit since we’ve had a couple getting married next year! Yay! I look forward to those too :)
Meghan and Curtis – what a nice, sweet thing that your friends did. Bonus points to the friends, love it.
I seriously cannot get over this location. Meghan, your uncle and aunt may have to deal with some random photographer guy bringing his couples over there (just kidding!!!). But truly, what beauty. The fields, the house, cabin, water, bridge, dock. Wow. Just wow.
Love the choices of outfits – I have to say, when Meghan is wearing the pink dress and sitting in the fields, you see all those little pink flowers around her too??? Coincidence? ;-)

I really can’t comment on too many specific pictures because honestly I’d have to say something about them all – all the natural props (pots, wagons, docks, stone steps), the fields, the light. Everything is SO so perfect. The textures just make this e-session even that much cooler. The bride and groom look awesome. But I do have to say, that golden warm light is gorgeous. I love those shots. Beautiful work.

And JP, are you making your cameo and the bling shot a signature? I kinda like it! :) Again, for the weddings we gotta get big joe in on the action too :)

Awesomeness all around. Congrats guys! Can’t wait to see what early spring brings next year!
