sheila & aaron: a good ol’ saratoga engagement session

Posted in: Engagements

September 18 2009

Happy Friday! I thought I’d post my 3rd & final post for the week today. This was a classic & beautiful Saratoga Springs engagement session featuring one of our June of 2010 couples Sheila & Aaron. These guys live up in Saratoga and are getting married in Saratoga in my favorite room. So where else would we have shot their engagement photos at? Thats right, Saratoga! So it was a beautiful night and I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I look forward to shooting their upcoming June wedding.

Enjoy, leave love,
JP

We set things off in Congress Park since there’s some proximity to their reception hall.

We had to shoot on the bench where Aaron popped the question right?

Duh! My favorite room the Canfield Casino!

The shot on the left is my #1 from the first set.

They’re a fun couple.

A little change of clothes and off to the front steps of a building they once lived in. I really like this image, the pose, the color just awesome.

How bout Sheila’s rockin’ shoe’s? My fav color.

I’ve always looked at this dingy wall in Saratoga and thought It was screaming for some good looking subjects to put in front of it.

Those yellow shoes pop!

I’ll never pass up that yummy golden backlight.

Easily my favs from this set.

And my token “bling shot”

melissa & jerome: boston style engagement session

Posted in: Engagements

September 17 2009

From time to time I get the opportunity to shoot in some different locations and when that happens I’m all over it. Melissa & Jerome found me on the net while searching for wedding venues and liked what they saw. So they wanted me to come to Boston and shoot their engagement session. It’s very flattering actually. I’m sure there’s no lack of talented photogs in the Boston area either but I thank them for having me travel their way. I love shooting in Boston! There are so many cool little spots and alleys just screaming to be captured. So we spent a couple hours walking around and shooting in all types of spots. So enjoy the images below and remember we’ll travel anywhere!

Enjoy, leave love,
JP

We set it off in a sweet spot near the Prudential Center.

Before the shoot I was walking around with my gear and a security guard told me this building in the background is off limits for “professional photos”. Maybe I should have told him I was an amateur? LOL. Little did he know I still got the shot. Ask for forgiveness not permission. ;) Oh I love the image on the right too.

Some fountain action.

The backdrop looks like a painting huh?

One of my favorites all day.

Off to the gardens.

Weeping willow trees make such great backdrops. A perfect time for a wardrobe change.

You know I loved this spot!

Another fav of mine.

Acorn St is so flippin’ cool.

This is an iconic street in Beacon Hill.

I guess its a private street too. One resident poked her head out and told me so. She told me she has my picture on the “cameras” they have. So she’ll remember me. Too funny. The first and last locations of the day were “off limits” for photos.

Love the shot on the left. Awesome!

So fitting that I end with my iconic bling shot ;) on an iconic street. Thanks for having me guys!

The fountain & reflecting pool in some of the first shots are one of my favorite places in Boston :-) I’ll remember that for someday ;-)

andrea & matt tie the knot

Posted in: Weddings

September 16 2009

Hey there everyone! Well this past weekend we shot Andrea & Matt’s wedding. You might remember Andrea & Matt from one of my favorite engagement sessions of 2008. After shooting their engagement session last September I knew this September’s wedding photos would easily rock and that they did. The nuptials took place at Albany’s most popular Catholic Church, St Mary’s in downtown. I can’t begin to tell you how many weddings we’ve shot there. It’s so beautiful and never gets old shooting there. After their ceremony we took some photos in downtown but then it was off to congress park in toga for some more photos. The reason for heading back to congress park was because thats where I shot their engagement photos and they wanted to tie things together. I love doing that. The comparison of shots are fun. So it was another sweet September day and we thank & congratulate Andrea & Matt. I hope you both are enjoying Italy!

Enjoy, leave love,
JP

I always love this shot.

Matt gets a good look at his future wife.

It always looks good when the bridal party stands during the vows.

How about those fleurs? My awesome and talented bride to be Kris Ann of Fleurtacious Designs always makes pretty flowers.

The dudes.

Look at Andrea, so pretty.

A nice formal bridal party shot.

The newly weds.

I love this image.

Remember this spot?

The classic Elario double angle here. Big Joe’s on the left and JP’s on the right.

My favorite of the  day.

The next two are pretty cool as well…

We also visited this spot from their engagement session.

It’s fun recreating your own shot. Same processing as well on this one.

The colors are awesome! Is it fall?

The bridesmaids and their rockin’ Fleurtacious Designs bouquets.

A little more relaxed bridal party shot.

One more flashback.

And finally I’ll close with a simple and beautiful b&w.

courtney & jeff: glen sanders mansion

Posted in: Weddings

September 11 2009

In typical Labor Day fashion we had two weddings last weekend and Courtney & Jeff’s was our Sunday wedding. It was again another awesome day with nothing but blue sky’s. Really the whole day into night was just perfect. Courtney & Jeff live in Boston and pretty much planned their whole wedding from out of the area. They tied the knot at the First Reformed Church in the Stockade section of Schenectady. What an awesome looking church, I really enjoyed shooting there. After that we took some photos outside the church and in the surrounding areas. We found an Elario red wall and took a few shots there but then it was off to Glen Sanders Mansion for cocktails. Courtney & Jeff also scheduled a little extra time between the ending of their ceremony and the beginning of cocktails. I’m digging this trend. The room looked awesome and had the monogram on the dance floor which is a nice little touch. DJ Paul Malo (518.383.3978) had all of the guests dancing from the very first dance set of the evening. The good thing about out of town peeps is they party their butts off. After dinner Courtney & Jeff surprised everyone with a serious salsa dance. Who knew Jeff had it in him? These guys got some crazy moves. Did I mention videographers Cheryl & Amanda from CASL Productions were on the scene? We just worked with them the day before but twice in one weekend was a nice treat. This really was a great wedding with some awesome people to end the summer with. Bring it on fall! Courtney & Jeff, congrats to you both and thanks for having us!

Enjoy, leave love,
JP

From the start of the day Courtney was ready to go!

She made an awesome bride.

Personally I think four is a perfect number for bridesmaids/groomsmen.

Here’s an HDR of the church.

A fun ring shot. I had to duck so I wasn’t in the reflection but I decided to hop in one for fun.

I call this one “going to the chapel”

What an awesome church!

One of my favs.

Here’s that red wall.

The newly renovated room at the mansion.

Back outside for some of that good good light. My #1 fav all day.

Its like the same light from their engagement session.

A spin off of the shot above.

Got any chips for that salsa? How fun is this dress? I think Courtney might start a trend here.

So went outside for more!

I’ll close with this image. I love the new entrance at the mansion, so nice.

Ok, this is the first I’ve commented, but I peak at your work all the time. I’ve was referred to you by a bride-also noticed an ad you did in Rangefinder mag. The ring shot in this post made me giggle! After hours of post production it’s refreshing to check out your site. Keep up the awesome work! And hey-have you ever thought about hosting a photo workshop?

  2. Brian (09.14.09)

I drove by the shoot when the ladies were outside Proctors and it looked like everyone was having a blast! Photos look great!

  3. Jenn (09.13.09)

The pictures are amazing – I can’t wait to see the rest of them. Joe and JP you guys both did a great job. I love the shot of us girls and I know there must be many more amazing ones! Someday when I get married you will definitely be hearing from me!

  4. Valerie E. (09.12.09)

LOVED the red wall….. you capture it all so well!!!

  5. Connie (09.11.09)

Our son’s wedding went by in a flash! Memories of our handsome son and gorgeous daughter-in-love, are so precious to me. Seeing Jeff & Courtney’s day through your artistic eye is incredible! Am I seeing scenes I never saw that day or are they the same ones but filtered through your magnificent talent? Well, I am sure talent played a big part but you have to admit — you had a pretty awesome couple to work with!! Thank you and I second Carol — can hardly wait to see the rest!

  6. Cheryl / CASL Productions (09.11.09)

Joe & JP – Great working with you again! I’m loving the pix in front of the church…by the red wall…down by the river…outside at night (you get the picture).
Courtney & Jeff – Thanks for letting us share your big day with you. It was awesome to watch the two of you and the way you interact with each other – so sweet. Excellent dance routines too! Talk to you soon.

  7. Mona (09.11.09)

Oh I forgot about the ring shot. That *was* pretty awesome, I agree big joe!!!! :)

  8. joe Elario (09.11.09)

one more : Courtney & her Dad danced to the theme song from “Forest Gump” ( beautiful tune ) it was quite touching , & it has to do with my favorite City Savannah GA , fyi , JP attended Savannah Collage of Art & Design there . . reason he’s so good at this blog stuff.

  9. joe Elario (09.11.09)

If Jeff allows me . . his comment to both JP & myself as we were leaving : ” you guys were great , I actually felt as though Courtney & I have had two of our best friends . .taking the pictures” . As Billy F. would say . . .” That’s Hu u u g h -ja ” .
Many times I see these blog adds about the same time the public does . . . . come -on . that ring shot is too kool, you agree Mona?

  10. Jeff & Courtney (09.11.09)

Joe & JP – They are perfect! Thank you so much for capturing our day in such a special way. We are forever grateful. You guys rock!!

  11. Carol (09.11.09)

Awesome light and photos. Spectacular shots, want to see all of them. Thanks so much!!

  12. Sue (09.11.09)

Absolutely gorgeous!!! Her dress is SO FUN! And you make everyone look like a movie star.
Great work – love the new room montage of shots.

  13. Mona (09.11.09)

WOW! Wait, when did they finish renovating that room in Glen Sanders? I thought it was supposed to be back in Feb? Is it more recent? LOVE the pic of the room… decor was so pretty too! and the church shot was amazing!!!! How’d you do that?

They look beautiful and happy – and with a costume change on top of it all! Very beautiful, congrats!
