meet sofie

November 26 2008

Now this is a blog I’ve been sitting on for well over a year. I started photographing Sofie from the get go, while in the tummy that is. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to have been chosen to document this beautiful child’s first year of life. I’ve had so much fun watching Sofie grow up, she sure has a personality. So sit back and enjoy these photos.

The cliche hand on the hip maternity shot. Stef actually gave birth 2 days after I took this photo.

A photo from month 1, Stef & Chris used this image as their birth announcement.

Here’s the little peanut lifting her head up at 3 months.

I love shooting kids with a fisheye.

We missed month 6 so we’re jumping a bit in time, but here is her official 1 year photo, they had hawaiian luau. This photo was also used as the invite, this family is so creative.

The most recent and my favorite of them all… this is classic Sofie right here.

The fam.

This is fun.

So I leave you with this blog for the holiday, Happy Thanksgiving to all my faithful blog readers. Try not to fill up on too much turkey.

Gobble gobble ya’ll-

Joe, what can I say? Seeing how fast my little “peanut” has grown through the beautiful work that you do makes me teary eyed. We always have a blast when working with you and the pictures definately show that! Thank you so much for capturing the beginning of our family and we look forward to another shoot again!

addie & matt: albany country club

November 26 2008

It was a cold day but Addie & Matt were tough enough to come outside for a quick five minute session. We’re thrilled with the outcome of these shots. They had a great wedding at Albany Country Club with TS Ensemble rockin’ the house.

So with this blog I decided to do something different, back to my original way of shooting, all b&w. When my father first stuck the Canon EOS 1N in my hand at age 11 it had Tri-X film in it, which is a b&w film. It probably wasn’t until I was 19 years old I actually started shooting and seeing in color. I also shot a ton T-Max 3200 (also b&w) which might have been my favorite film, not to get too technical and loose you non photo readers but this film was very grainy and I loved that look. I would also print a lot of stuff warmer/sepia or on color paper which made the photos look warmer, this was a style I developed and used quite often. With these photos I wanted to mimic these two films and my old style. I hope I didn’t bore you much with all this technical mumbo jumbo.

Enjoy-
JP

stacey & matt: hall of springs

Posted in: Weddings

November 18 2008

I’ve been looking forward to blogging this wedding all day so here it is. I can’t begin to describe how happy we are with the images we came home with from Stacey & Matt’s wedding. From the second we walked in that hotel room I knew this Stacey was gonna bring it and she sure did. Stacey was a ball of energy and excitement from the start of the day until late in the evening and Matt was right there along side of it all. I love watching bride and grooms enjoy themselves and that never got old this weekend.

From the moment we photographed their first look in the hotel lobby I knew this was going to be a fun couple to photograph. Now keep in mind it had been raining all morning and early afternoon but when we arrived at the Hall of Springs for portraits the sun peeked out for just for a small window of time and the rain stopped. Let me tell you we sure took advantage of that. We must have had the staff bring out 6-8 sheets of linen to keep the bottom of that dress dry. I pointed the camera at these two and they turned it on like a light switch.

Our favorite Rabbi, Scott Shpeen, performed the Ketubah ceremony. It’s amazing when he walks into a room that is full of commotion and noise he locks it down in like 2 minutes. I see this at every wedding we work with him. I would say he’s probably one of the most professional and well-respected individuals we cross paths with season after season. The ceremony then followed as all of Stacey & Matt’s out of town guests got to see them tie the knot. I think there were maybe 15 local people at this event including us and the other vendors.

Now this is the kind of party I want. City Rhythm had this place jumpin’ and when they didn’t Paul Malo did. Seriously I say this often but it’s true, a bride and groom on the dance floor will guarantee a party. Stacey and Matt danced all night and so did their guests. It’s that simple folks, people gravitate to the bride and groom so if you want a good party then you must be in the center of the floor making it happen. This wedding here, was a good party. As always a thank you to the lovely bride and groom for having us be part of their day and congrats to you, hope Thailand is fun.

Peace, leave love -

Whats that saying? Let your hair down. I love when brides wear their hair down.

I always enjoy a laugh.

This piece of furniture is a new addition to the Hall of Springs, remember where you saw it first.

There’s the man Rabbi Shpeen.

I decided to hang the rings off of one of a tallis that covered their Chuppah.

Love this first dance shot.

A great little series of Matt getting tossed up and down, don’t try this at home now.

I have not shown a cake shot in a while so here’s one.
